  • What to expect & preparing for an installation | Raynesway Blinds

Learn what to expect during a professional blind installation and how to prepare for it. Get ready for a seamless installation process! Our free blinds, shutters and awnings installation Find all the information about our free blinds, shutters and awnings installation here, from what to expect to how best to prepare for it. Once you've completed the survey and chosen your blinds, shutters, or awnings, the next step is the installation. Professional installation ensures that your new window solutions are securely fitted and function optimally. Here’s a detailed guide on what happens during the installation process and how to prepare for it. The Installation Process Scheduling the Installation: After confirming your order, we will schedule a convenient time for the installation with you. It's important to choose a time when you can be present to address any last-minute questions or decisions. Arrival of the Installation Team: On the scheduled day, the installation team will arrive with all the necessary tools and materials. They will typically introduce themselves and review the plan with you before starting. Preparation and Protection: The installers will take measures to protect your home. This may include laying down drop cloths to protect floors and furniture, and using protective covers for any items near the installation area. Removal of Old Products (if necessary): If you have existing blinds, shutters, or awnings, the installation team will carefully remove them. They will also handle the disposal of these old products unless you prefer to keep them. Installation of New Products: Blinds: The installers will mount the brackets, ensuring they are level and securely attached. Then, they will fit the blinds into the brackets and test their functionality, including raising, lowering, and tilting the slats. Shutters: Shutter frames are first assembled and mounted. The panels are then attached to the frames, and adjustments are made to ensure they open, close, and tilt smoothly. Awnings: For retractable awnings, the installation involves securing the mounting brackets to the wall or roof and attaching the awning unit. The installers will ensure the awning operates smoothly and that the angle of inclination is properly adjusted. Electrical Connections (if applicable): If your blinds, shutters, or awnings are motorised, the installation team will handle the necessary electrical connections. This may involve wiring to a power source or integrating the controls with your smart home system. Final Adjustments and Testing: Once installed, the team will make final adjustments to ensure everything operates smoothly. They will test the opening, closing, and any additional features like remote control operation or automatic sensors. Cleanup: The installers will clean up the work area, removing any debris, packaging materials, and protective coverings. They will leave your home as clean as it was when they arrived. Demonstration and Handover: Before leaving, the installation team will demonstrate how to use your new blinds, shutters, or awnings. They will explain any maintenance tips and ensure you are comfortable with the operation. Review and Sign-Off: Finally, you’ll be asked to review the installation and sign off on the completion. This is your opportunity to address any concerns or ask questions. How to Prepare for Installation Clear the Installation Area: Ensure that the areas around your windows or awning installation sites are free of furniture, decor, and other obstructions. This allows the installers easy access to work efficiently. Remove Delicate Items: Take down any delicate or valuable items near the installation area to prevent accidental damage. Arrange for Pets and Children: Keep pets and small children away from the installation area for their safety and to allow the installers to work without interruptions. Confirm Power Availability: If your new treatments are motorized, ensure that the installation team has access to power outlets or the main power supply. Review the Plan: Have a copy of the installation plan and product specifications handy. This ensures you can verify that everything is being installed as per your preferences. Prepare Questions: Write down any questions or concerns you have about the installation process. The installation team will be able to address these before they begin. Summary The installation of blinds, shutters, and awnings is a meticulous process that, when done professionally, ensures your window solutions are both beautiful and functional. By understanding the installation steps and preparing adequately, you can facilitate a smooth and efficient process, resulting in a polished upgrade to your home’s interior and exterior.

  • Enhancing Safety & Comfort: Our Work with the Royal School for the Deaf Derby

We worked with the Royal School for the Deaf Derby to enhance their learning environment by providing high-quality blinds that improve both comfort and security. Our installation covered multiple rooms, ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations while also supporting the school’s unique needs, such as maintaining visibility for visual alarms. By working closely with the school, we helped create a safer, more adaptable space for students and staff. We recently had the pleasure of connecting with Paul Burrows from the Royal School for the Deaf Derby regarding his recent purchase of our blinds. We wanted to hear his insights on our products and service firsthand. WHY DID THE ROYAL SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF DERBY CHOOSE RAYNESWAY BLINDS? The Royal School for the Deaf Derby chose Raynesway Blinds because of their long-standing relationship, reliable customer service, competitive pricing, and expertise in providing high-quality, fire-retardant blinds . The school needed blinds not only for standard purposes like controlling sunlight but also as part of their security measures to enhance student and staff safety . Given the unique considerations of a school for deaf students, such as the need for visual alarms, Raynesway Blinds provided tailored solutions that met both safety and accessibility requirements . The team there offer good customer service, they are reliable and competitive on pricing. We also value the fact that we feel we are more than just a client to them. Paul Burrows, Headteacher WHY ARE BLINDS HELPFUL TO STUDENT AND STAFF SAFETY? Blinds contributed to student and staff safety in several ways: Security & Privacy – Blinds can act as a visual barrier, preventing potential threats from seeing inside classrooms, which can be crucial in lockdown situations or other security incidents. Emergency Preparedness – Many schools now practice lockdown drills as part of their safety protocols. Blinds help create a safer environment by limiting visibility from outside during these drills or real emergencies. Controlled Environment – By reducing glare and regulating natural light, blinds create a more comfortable learning environment, which can improve focus and well-being for students and staff. Fire Safety Compliance – Schools are required to use fire-retardant materials. High-quality blinds, like those installed by Raynesway Blinds, meet these regulations, adding an extra layer of safety. Tailored to Specific Needs – In schools like the Royal School for the Deaf, blinds must work alongside visual alarms to ensure students are aware of emergency alerts, making them a crucial part of overall safety planning. The recent government guidance on school security has prompted many institutions to rethink their safety measures. The Royal School for the Deaf Derby’s proactive approach - balancing security with the well-being of students and staff - resonates deeply with our mission. Durable vision blinds Crafted with precision and engineered for durability, our vision blinds are built to last. Made from high-quality materials and featuring advanced technology, they offer reliable performance and easy maintenance, ensuring that they retain their beauty and functionality for years to come. EXPLORE OUR FAQ How long will vision blinds take to install? A single vision blind should take around 10-15 minutes. What is the point of vision blinds? Their design offers the best balance of light control and privacy; the lighter strips allow a good amount of light through without sacrificing privacy during the day and with a small amount of adjustment it can provide complete privacy or prevent most of the light. Are vision blinds more expensive than other blinds? Generally, vision blinds are typically more expensive than other blinds due to the more complex manufacturing processes of interweaving strips of different fabrics together. What are the disadvantages of vision blinds? Probably the only real disadvantage of vision blinds is that it doesn't completely darken the interior. There is a small gap that has to be between the two pieces of fabric and this allows for some small light leakage. Can people see into your home with vision blinds? If you have the blinds so that the light strips are aligned in the front and back and it is dark outside and light inside then people may be able to see in your home. You can prevent this by making sure that each light strip is matched with a dark strip which will sufficiently prevent people seeing into your home. Can you fully open a vision blind? Yes, it will go up much like a roller blind, but now you have a variety of options of light levels and privacy as it goes up as well. Want to learn more about blinds? LEARN MORE

Elevate your outdoor experience to new heights of style and comfort – invest in awnings today! EXPLORE OUR FAQ How do I clean my awning? To clean the frame, simply wipe it with a damp cloth dipped in mild detergent; avoid using a scouring pad to prevent scratching. For the fabric cover, use warm, soapy water and a sponge. Regular cleaning is essential, ideally every two weeks, especially in coastal areas or with a storage cover to shield against saltwater. Avoid washing the cover or valance in the washing machine, as this may compromise the waterproofing. How far does the awning open? That depends on the width of the awning. Generally, up to a 3m wide awning, it's maximum projection is about 0.5m less than the width. Any awnings above 3m have a maximum projection of around 1m less than the width. How much do awnings slope down? Awnings can be sloped to any angle from 15-35 degrees and can be anywhere between this to suit you. How high should an awning be placed? The suggested mounting height is 2.5m/3.5m above the ground. If considering a lower installation, ensure ample headroom when the awning is fully extended, and confirm that doors or windows can open freely. The vertical dimension of the fixing bracket measures approximately 20cm. Additionally, our awnings offer a good amount of versatility; they can be mounted to eaves or a horizontal surface using a ceiling/balcony bracket. Can awnings be installed on brickwork? Yes, however, if they have older bricks or reconstituted brickwork that isn't as sturdy as standard masonry, they may require the a resin kit. Furthermore, they really should not be drilled into mortar. Can awnings be installed on breeze blocks? The feasibility will depend on the type of breeze blocks they possess. If they have low or medium density blocks, installation may not be possible. However, with high-density breeze blocks, it should be feasible, provided they use a resin kit. Can awnings be installed on plasterboard? Absolutely not, the structure is far too weak for the weight of an awning. Can awnings be installed on hardwood? Indeed they can, but we would use coach bolts instead of expansion bolts. Additionally, structural timber would be the preferred choice. Can awnings be installed on softwood? Absolutely not! The structure of the wood is too weak for the awning weight. Can awnings be installed on wall render? Certainly, installation is feasible if there's minimal render, typically between 1-10mm, and solid brickwork or hardwood lies behind the render for the expansion bolts/coach bolts to anchor into securely. It's important to trim back the render where the brackets are to be installed because render may have irregularities, and failure to smooth it down may result in uneven installation of the awning. Can awnings be installed on pebble dashing? Unfortunately not; the pebble dashing would make it very unlikely to get the awning level. Can awnings be installed on metalwork? While it is possible with welding or some industrial-grade components; we do not offer installation into metalwork.
